About Samir Fouad

17 Artworks
Samir Fouad was born in Heliopolis, Cairo in 1944 and raised in an art-loving environment that influenced his abilities. He inherited his love of painting and violin- playing from his elder brother, who was a talented artist, and received his first drawing lessons long before he went to school. Despite pursuing a career as an engineer, Fouad’s love for painting and music continued. He continued to develop his artistic talent by reading and visiting art institutions, particularly in England, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1971. He then met Sabry Ragheb, who helped him develop his painting skills, especially portraiture. He met Hassan Soliman in 1979, with whom he studied until 1982. Fouad has been actively participating as a professional artist in the Egyptian art movement since 1984 and was recognized as one of the leading Egyptian watercolour painters. He has held seven solo exhibitions since 1976, three of which were devoted to watercolours. He has also participated in various private and national exhibitions, and represented Egypt in the International Watercolour Biennial in 2001. He retired in 2001 and has since been solely devoted to his art. His art is said to be anti-static and counter-arrest and has been described as capturing the flight of the moment and the essence of the passing of time on the subjects of his canvases. See more
