Cairo-born visual artist Azza Ezzat is an architect by training, the influence of her training is evident in her paintings, which are predominantly in black and white with a tendency towards pen and ink. Through her geometrical shapes and fixation on no more than three colours, Ezzat captures the shadows and chaos of city life, finding beauty in the mundane everyday fixtures such as roads, lampposts and windows. ‘Birds’ was made with pen and ink on paper, and is part of her 'Gardening' series.
