Protection IV

'Protection IV' is an oil painting on cardboard by Egyptian contemporary artist Mohamed El Ganouby. His work focuses on how experiences of literal and metaphorical travel can have an effect on a person and their collective identities. His work shows the use of raw materials (sand, wood, spices, and wax) because of their association with Southern Egypt which is where El Ganouby grew up. His choice of using these materials is also meant to symbolize the transformation of primitive raw material into a work of art, as he believes that art comprises both art history and natural history, they both work together and create new meaning.
